Beyond Reintegration: The Power of Thawing Out
The Lunch and Learn is a monthly series where the Illinois Prison Project educates the public on obstacles to prison reform, during the lunch hour. In each installment, experts discuss issues that contribute to the current state of perpetual punishment and mass incarceration in Illinois and nationally.
The experience of reintegrating into society after serving a period of incarceration forces a person to defrost from years of trauma and oppression, we call this process "Thawing Out." After being separated from society and loved ones for so long, it can be challenging to deal with issues that are uncovered when the frostbite of incarceration begins to peel away. Join us for an insightful virtual panel discussion with two of IPP’s Ambassadors, Ana Navarro and Beria Hampton as they discuss the challenges and triumphs they experienced while "Thawing Out." This discussion aims to foster understanding and provide strategies for supporting individuals on their journey toward healing and reintegration.
